"RennSport" is short for the German term which means "Racing Sport". Over the years there have been numerous limited edition German cars with the RS or RennSport designation such as the legendary 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS, the 1984 Porsche 911 SC/RS, the 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera RS the 2011 Porsche 997 GT2 RS.

The latest Porsche 911 to wear the historic Rennsport badge, which Nostalgia Classic Cars is pleased to be able to introduce, is a credit to the breed. It is fearsomely fast, it has 80 per cent of the downforce of a GT3 Cup racing car, carbon body panels and magnesium roof. The roof is something amazing, it is a magnesium sheet metal, which is unique even among race cars and it’s 1kg lighter than carbonfibre would be. The GT3 RS has the wheels, tyres, the seats, steering wheel and brakes from the 918 Spyder and there is a button marked "PIT SPEED" that lets the driver set a speed limit the car won't violate when the driver is in a racetrack's pit lane. It’s adopted the Turbo body which has major benefits, for example side air intakes which have more ram-air effect into the engine. There are motorsport-inspired slats above the front wheels which are very important. By opening the front fenders, and allowing air to get ventilated out of the wheel arch, this unique feature contribute big-time to the front end downforce. It has a 4.0-litre flat six engine with 492bhp and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.30 seconds.
